Creating a Great Work

Before she became 'Mary Baker Eddy' -- Founder of a Worldwide Religion based upon the healings and teaching of Christ Jesus -- Mary Ann Morse Baker was an unwell (and some would say tempestuous) woman, perpetually seeking a cure for many illnesses that plagued her. Wellness didn't fully take hold until she discovered and deconstructed Christ's method of treating the sick, which she then named Christian Science. One might assume the medical establishment, other Christian churches, and the media would have welcomed such an effective new modality of health care; one that could potentially become available and affordable to all. Certainly, as a growing number of citizens offered impressive testimonies of healings experienced while working with this new 'science, ' the religion and its adherents grew. As did its critics, copycats, and enemies such as Huckleberry Finn author Mark Twain. Enough individuals capitalized and theoretically improved upon Mrs. Eddy's work to birth the entire New Thought movement. But as Mary Baker Eddy said in her masterwork on the subject, Science and Health: "The way to extract error from mortal mind is to pour in truth through flood-tides of Love." This book is an exploration woven from experiences surrounding the creation of wellness via spiritual means as expressed by Mary Baker Eddy herself along with contemporaries past and present, including myself, as we imagine everyone in the world following Divine Wisdom on their own uniquely, beautifully correct path towards true independent health and freedom.
