Description

Browne is the author of more than fourteen poetry books and four books of fiction. Her most recent poetry book,In Garments Worn by Lindens (Tender Buttons Press, 2019) is also an homage text to Rosmarie Waldrop. This "homage text" is a type of practice that Laynie has employed through much of her past work, connecting her to a larger poetic community. We plan to feature this book as a new release at the 2022 AWP conference in Philadelphia, and Browne is planning on participating in panel(s) and conferences for conference near where she lives.Teaches at the University of Pennsylvania, working closely with the Kelly Writers House and  the School of Liberal & Professional Studies Browne is an established, award-winning poet with a diverse readership. Her last book with Wave, The Scented Fox (Wave, 2007) was a National Poetry Series winner, selected by Alice Notley, and garnered a lot of praise, most notably from Lana Turner. Her collection Drawing of a Swan Before Memory won the Contemporary Poetry Series Award. Because Browne is known as a poet, novelist, and a teacher, her presence puts her in the unique position of having a wide network across genres. Those unfamiliar with her poetry might know of her novel. Also, anyone who has a relationship to C.D. Wright's poetry will probably be excited to read this book, regardless of whether they have previously read Laynie's other poems. Browne is a beloved within the poetry community, and taught at Swarthmore College and the University of Pennsylvania for many years, widening her community of poets, some of whom have gone on to teach her in their own classes. Her previous work has been translated into French, Spanish, Chinese and Catalan, and therefore we think this book will also have international appeal. Browne is very actively engaged in the poetry and academic communities, often traveling to conferences and panels to speak about her work. She paneled at the &Now Conference in Seattle with Rae Armantrout.
