The Catterick Camp Military Railway and the Richmond Branch

First published in 1993 the book was revised by the author in 2007 but it wasn't published at that time by the previous owners of Oakwood Press. We are pleased that we are now able to bring out this second edition of the book which includes an extra chapter. Sadly the author passed away in 2018. The story of this military railway begins with the opening of the Richmond Branch in 1845 built mainly because of the lead mining in Swaledale and then extended to Eryholme Junction. The route of the military railway, four and a half miles in length, is described in one chapter. The book also has chapters on the motive power used, operation of the railway and the remains as described by the author in 2007. The illustrations include a number of maps as well as period photographs.
