When their rich stepfather dies, two women are left poor by the rules of inheritance. They have to move to a tiny cottage in Devonshire. There, the primary ambition is to find suitable husbands. Interests include the dashing Willoughby, the vicar Ferrars, and the retired Colonel Brandon. Which sister is the sensible one, and which one is more sensible?
