Description
Originally published in 1967 as The North Sunderland Railway, and revised in 1988, this book has been unavailable for over a decade. This new edition retains the original text and illustrations but has been redesigned and retitled to better reflect the geographical area it covers. North Sunderland refers to a village with a station on the former line from Chathill, Northumberland, to Seahouses, originally called North Sunderland Seahouses. The railway, established to support harbour improvements in the 1880s, spanned four and a half miles to connect with the NER at Chathill, transporting coal, lime, fish, and visitors. The book chronicles the railway's history from its inception to its closure in 1952, covering locomotives, rolling stock, signalling, operations, accidents, and more.
