A key to the successful exploitation of modern coating systems lies in the generation and acceptance of appropriate quality assurance and control (QA and QC) standards. There is a proliferation of papers in the literature extolling the benefits of novel coatings and coating systems but there is still an urgent need to characterise, understand and interpret the reported enhanced performance of such coatings.
