Post-Truth

Why do we lie? Why is it considered best practice to tell a client that you'll get the best deal for them when you know you won't, or your boss that you'll hit your sales target when it's impossible, or a journalist that you will win an election when you know you won't, and when everyone else knows you won't? Low level dishonesty is rife everywhere, in the form of exaggeration, selective use of facts, economy with the truth, careful drafting - all the tools professional communicators apply to their daily lives.
