Old Shawlands and Newlands

Horses, carts, trams a few pedestrians and the odd bicycle appear in the street scenes featured in this collection of these two, adjacent, Glasgow Southside districts. It's hard to imagine a timje when Pollokshaws, Crossmyloof and Strathbungo were separate villages with cute rows of thatched cottages, dairies, and smithies - maybe not a rural idyll but utterly unlike today's urban sprawl. This collection of photographs, many previously unpublished, features the main drags, the side streets and quite a number of vanished buildings of these now fashionable suburbs.
