Faithful and Fearless

Throughout history, dogs and humans have had a special relationship based on trust, loyalty and friendship, a relationship immortalised in art. Faithful and Fearless: Portraits of Dogs celebrates this long-standing emotional bond. The book presents a selection of the Wallace Collection's remarkable range of dog paintings, drawings, sculpture and taxidermy as well as works from the V&A, Tate Britain, the British Museum and from private collections. It features over 50 well-known works including Rosa Bonheur's Brizo, George Stubbs' Turk, Thomas Gainsborough's portraits of his dogs Tristram and Fox, Lucian Freud's oil painting of Pluto, his pet whippet, and David Hockney's beloved dachshunds Stanley and Boodgie.
