A Brush With the Borders

A beautifully illustrated book by artist Kathryn Moore following her year as Artist in Residence at Hergest Croft Gardens. The unfolding seasons, drawn and painted in sketchbooks, depict the flora and fauna of the gardens, along with observations of natural history, discussions with the gardeners, historical research, poetry and artistic references. Each month, pencil drawings and watercolours carried out in situ are enriched by Kathryn's handwritten notes and observations. The concluding Gallery section reproduces the 25 paintings produced during the residency, showcasing how the artist develops her observational studies and ideas into final artworks. This book provides a fascinating insight into the evolving natural landscape of the gardens, and their close observation by an artist who became ever more attuned to their shifting moods and seasonal changes.
