20 Years of GT3 Racing

Launched in 2006, the GT3 racing category has proved a huge success story over its first two decades. It rapidly gained a foothold worldwide as more and more manufacturers purposely developed cars for the category and became adopted by an increasing number of national and international series. So far 23 manufacturers have been represented and thousands of GT3 cars have been built and sold. The brainchild of Stéphane Ratel, founder of the SRO Motorsports Group and one-time sportscar racer, the idea was to bring together the most prestigious sportscar brands and give them a level playing field on which to compete. This has been achieved through cost control, a formula to balance the performance of various contrasting racing cars, and driver grading according to their experience and speed. This book takes an in-depth look at the first 20 years of GT3, from its early foundations to its position today as the world's leading GT sportscar category.
