The only remarkable thing about Denizen is that he's an orphan, but that's not so remarkable in Crosscaper Orphanage. But when someone comes to take him to his long-lost aunt, everything happens a bit too quickly for Denizen's liking—and his supicions are proven correct when he comes face-to-face with a monster from the shadows.
Denizen's aunt leads the Dublin branch of a group of knights that protect the world from demons with weapons and magic—but their magic comes at a terrible cost to themselves. When Denizen's power manifests, he chooses to join them. But becoming a knight is far from easy, and they soon face a demon invasion that could destroy the world.
And back in Crosscaper, other monsters have arrived searching for Denizen... and they're not leaving.
This is one of the best fantasy novels I've read in a long time. It's a hilarious, fast-paced adventure with heart.

Fortunately for humanity, between us and the shadows stand the Knights of the Borrowed Dark. Unfortunately for Denizen, he's one of them...
