Dubray Review

On the outskirts of Dublin, a man and his children are found brutally murdered on a ghost estate once known as Broken Harbour. The only witness is the mother, who is now hospitalised and gravely injured. The case is given to Detective Mike 'Scorcher' Kennedy, a Murder Squad veteran with a reputation as a ‘closer’, and his new partner, rookie cop Richie. It looks like an open-and-shut case – a tragic murder-suicide – but soon fairly bulges with complications. Family history casts a long distorting shadow for the perpetrator, victims and detectives alike. Dublin, post-boom, is at the centre of this novel and the buzzing, scruffy city centre contrasts sharply with the dispiriting decay of the half-finished housing estate. The tension ratchets up to a shattering climax as the narrow margins between memory, communication and betrayal are exposed in this stunning psychological crime thriller.
