Barnaby Brocket is born into a perfectly normal family. The Brockets live a perfectly normal life in a perfectly normal house and everything they do is perfectly normal . . . until Barnaby comes along. Though it’s not his fault, Barnaby is anything but normal. From the time he was born, he has had the unfortunate condition of floating away if he’s not tethered down and this, of course causes problems in the perfectly normal life of the Brocket family. Why can’t Barnaby just be normal?

All Barnaby wants is to be accepted for who he is: a boy who floats. Then, one day, a terrible thing happens to Barnaby and he floats away from his old life. Rescued by two old ladies in a hot air balloon, his journey takes him to South America, exposes him to many new (and NOT perfectly normal) people, places him in terrible danger and takes him all across the world in search of a way back home. In the end, Barnaby Brocket discovers something truly extraordinary: that nothing makes you happier than being yourself!
