Product description

During World War Two twelve year old Freya Strong is evacuated from her home in London. She is sent to stay in the eerie and crumbling Ravenswood Castle which juts out of the Wexford Coast like a wart on the end of a witch’s nose.

Freya notices that the sky is darker above the castle than anywhere else in the world. It is as though the stars have refused to shine. The Castle is owned by the peculiar Lady Grimsby. She has eyes as big as saucers and teeth like gravestones.

There is a room that Freya is forbidden to enter. It is at the top of the castle. Lady Grimsby tells her that the room contains the secrets of the sun and the moon and that if they escape then all the stars will fall from the sky.

On a cold winter night when an ill west wind is blowing and snow covers the land, Freya picks up her candle and walks over to the window. She sees a girl with hair like flame. She watches the girl pluck a star from the sky. Then she climbs into a hollow tree and eats the star.
